Wilma Ashe Young

Wilma Ashe Young, born November 19, 1940,  of the Savannah Community, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday November 21, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sherrill and Myrtle (Melton) Ashe of the Bear Creek Community. They later moved to the Big Ridge Community following the development of Bear Lake.
Wilma was also preceded in death by all her siblings.
Wilma married Walter Young of the John’s Creek Community in Walhalla, SC on January 28, 1966:  he preceded her in death on December 15, 2020.
Wilma and Walter lived in Northern California and returned to Western North Carolina in late October 1969. Wilma worked for many years at the SylCo sewing plant and later went on to work in housekeeping at C. J. Harris Community Hospital (Harris Hospital).  There she worked with many of her friends and developed close friendships with many of the nurses, doctors, and other employees.  Wilma retired from C.J. Harris, but that did not stop her work ethic. Outside the three years, she was Walter’s caregiver, Wilma worked fulltime until 2022.  Wilma always said, “I need something to do!” 
Wilma was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she spent many years giving of her time, singing in the choir and developing lifelong friendships with the members.  Those friendships became second families to her, Walter, and their children.
Wilma is survived by her sons; Darrin Young of Burlington, North Carolina, David Young and wife Tracy of Webster, North Carolina, one grand-daughter Dakota Shay (Young) Shapiro and husband Jesse of Hampstead, North Carolina.
Funeral Services will be held at New Hope Baptist Church on Sunday November 26, 2023 at 3:00 pm.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service at the Church.  Rev. Ernie Jamison and Rev. Earl Holden will officiate; burial will be in the Church cemetery.
