William V. Fisher, age 93, of Glenville passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at his home in Glenville. Mr. Fisher was born March 29, 1921 in Jackson County, NC. He was the son of the late William Claude and the late Mattie Mae (Broom) Fisher. He was preceded in death by one brother, Samuel Eugene Fisher, two sisters; Carolyn Jane Moore and Ola Hooper and one daughter, Patricia Moss.
Mr. Fisher was a member of the Glenville Wesleyan Church and a friend to everyone he met. He served in the Army during World War II, serving during the Battles; Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe and was listed as P.O.W. He was a squad leader and received four bronze stars, a Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Fisher was the owner and operator of Fisher's Grocery in Glenville for 27 years. He loved music and playing for benefits to help others in need but above all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Emma Henson Fisher. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Penny Kerns (Pat) of Asheville; son, Ed Fisher (Patty Welch) of Glenville and daughter, Kathy Holland (Marvin) of Brevard. He is also survived by his six grandchildren; Rob (Annette) Herstek, Stephanie (George) Sutton, Jon Herstek, Bryan (Crystal) Holland, Kim (Johnny) Druffel and Melissa (Derrick) Woodbury. Nine great grandchildren and one sister, Betty Sue Moore of Asheville also survive.
A funeral service will be held Monday, December 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Glenville Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Ralph Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Glenville Wesleyan Church Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends, Sunday December 21, 2014 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church.
