William "Bill" Dills

William C. “Bill” Dills, 78, of Cullowhee, NC went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2022. He was a life-long resident of Jackson County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Zelda Dills, a brother Jim Dills, and two grandchildren, Kayla and Cody Clements. Bill is survived by his wife Inez, the love of his life for their 59 years of marriage; daughter, Karla Catan (Mark), sister, Sue (James) Nations, brother Steve Dills, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, sister and brother in laws and friends. Bill worked at Dayco until it closed, then worked for NCDOT for several years. He was a member of Jackson County Rescue Squad for many years and served a term as captain of the squad.
He loved to fish, hunt and “go to the mountains.” He was proud of his garden, especially the tomatoes he grew in a bale of hay.
He treasured the time he spent with his family, never tiring of picnics, trips to Old Bald, Catalochee and Cades Cove.
He loved to travel, especially out west where he made 16 consecutive annual trips. He could have been a professional tour guide the way he knew every road, the best routes and all the sights and attractions. Bill was also a master navigator in his everyday life. Many years ago, he gave his heart, soul and life to Jesus Christ. He never made a wrong turn or an exit from the straight and narrow path he had mapped out for his life’s journey. He faithfully served as a trustee for East LaPort Grace (Community) Church, of which he was a member. He cherished the fellowship of his church family. He practiced his Christian love-visiting the sick, helping those in need, and extending the hand of friendship to his family, friends, neighbors and community.
No doubt, when his earthly trip was finished and he arrived at his heavenly home, Bill heard these words…”Well done, good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your Lord…” (Matthew 25:23).

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday January 22, 2022 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. David Zachary and Jim Ed Powell officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 noon till 2:00 prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cullowhee Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Fred Houston, Nick and Jake Henry, Kevin and Mitchell Watson and Jody Bell, with honorary pallbearers being Bradley Bell and Allston Henry
