William Felton Allen

On June 24, 2021, William F. Allen Sr. loving father, grandfather, and brother died peacefully in Sylva, NC, after a long battle with cancer.  He was 78 years old. 

William is survived by his brother Joseph A. Allen and wife Jody Melnick of Laurel Park, NC; son William “Butch” F. Allen Jr. and wife Margaret of Durham, NC, daughter Lizel Allen Stone and husband Walter Stone of Waco TX; son Joseph W. Allen and wife Laura Debty Allen of Sylva, NC; four grandchildren: Johnathan C. Allen, Caleb N. Allen, Hannah E. Allen, and Aryana J. Allen; and long time friend Barbara Pope and Family.  He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Winfred Allen and Advivian Guessmonda Hogan Allen.

William was born on August 29, 1942 in Durham, NC.  He graduated from Durham High School in 1959 and went on to join the Navy to serve his country.  After his return, he attended Durham Tech and Granville Tech and graduated in 1972.  As a young man he worked as an EMT and Ham Radio Instructor, though his primary career was as a professional painter for over 40 years.  William enjoyed square dancing, old black and white movies, and spending time with his family and dog Lacey.

At William’s request there will be no formal funeral services.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name.
