Rev. Wayne Caldwell, Sr. of Sylva, NC went to be with the Lord on June 9, 2018. He was born in 1931 in Haywood County. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sue; a daughter, Debbie Meaney (Danny); a son, Jack Caldwell (Amanda); and two grandsons. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Craig, of Haywood County; and three nephews, Kevin, Carroll Wayne and Jason Craig.
Since being ordained as a Baptist minister in 1963, Rev. Caldwell served as pastor for several churches in Jackson County. He also worked full time for 33 years in the medical technology field at C.J. Harris Hospital; Ralph Morgan, M.D.; Oteen Veterans Hospital; and the Haywood, Swain and Jackson County Health Departments. Mr. Caldwell was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served as a combat medic in Korea.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 12 from 5 to 8 pm at Appalachian Funeral Home on Skyland Drive in Sylva. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 10 am at Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastors Eddie Stillwell and Mike Farmer officiating. Immediately following the celebration of life, Pastor Lloyd Fish will conduct a graveside service with full military honors at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Sylva.
