Walter "Wade" Wilson, 88, of Dillsboro, NC, died peacefully on Saturday February 7, 2015 at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC. He was born October 18, 1926 to the late John Hayes Wilson and Madge Bridges Wilson. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Rebecca Cannon Wilson, siblings Hicks E. Wilson, Mary Wilson Tweed, John Hayes Wilson Jr., Andrew Bridges Wilson and Agnes Wilson Johnson. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Sylva, NC. After graduating from Sylva High School, he joined the United States Navy, traveled abroad and was a WWII Veteran. He retired from Cannon Bros. Gas & Oil Company. He was a community activist and served as Mayor of Dillsboro from 1976 until 2001. He served as a Board Member of the Jackson Savings and Loan until his death. He loved his family, he loved to dance and he loved to laugh. Nothing made him happier than being with family. Christmas was his favorite time of year.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Nora Seagle Wilson, Daughter- Susan Wilson Owen and husband Kenneth (Buddy) Owen. Son- Walter Wade Wilson Jr. and his wife Sherry. Grandchildren- Amanda Owen Houston (Mike), Gretchen Breese (Tommy), Thomas Stephens and Travis Stephens (Mandy). Great Grandchildren-Karleigh, Owen, Reed. Brothers and sisters- Madge Wilson Webber, Matilda Wilson LaVange, Hal Everett Wilson. Many precious nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews also survive as well as stepson- Michael Seagle and his wife Lisa, step-grandsons- Matthew and Justin Seagle and step Grandaughter- Allison Seagle
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday February 10 at Sylva First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Paul Christy, Mike Shuford and Zack Christy officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 am up until the Service hour at the Church.
