Virginia Ammons

Virginia Ammons, age 82, of Sylva, NC, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022. She was the wife of the late Jimmy Ammons and the daughter of the late Roy and Lucille Shuler. She is survived by her four children: Tammy Ammons-Hagberg (Jeff), Jeff Ammons (Caron), Chris Ammons (Lynn), and Sue Ellen Ammons; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three beloved sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia’s faith and love of God were unmatched, and she is surely rejoicing in her heavenly home. Virginia loved her family and extended family fiercely. She was the definition of selfless, and would do anything for anyone. She was an avid baker and loved sewing and making gifts for her loved ones. She spent several decades working as a “lunch lady” at Fairview Elementary School, where she was adored by the children and teachers alike. She held a special place in the childhood memories of so many of the children of Jackson County, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church. Revs Mike Moore, Ernie Jamison, Earl Holden, and Eddie Stillwell will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.
