Virgil Taylor Holland, 89, of Sylva, went home to be with his Lord Saturday February 18, 2017. A native of Macon County, he had lived most of his life in Jackson County and was the son of the late Alfred McKinley and Ruth Bryson Holland. He was a devoted member and honorary Deacon at East Sylva Baptist Church. Virgil was a U.S.Army veteran where he repaired helicopters. After his service to his country he worked for many years at Chevy dealerships as a body and fender repairman and after retiring he worked for several more years at home in his workshop. Virgil was also an avid gardener. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Lee DeHart Holland, 3 infant daughters and also several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter- Brenda Holland Martin and her husband Sean of Sylva
2 Grandchildren- Emily and Jake Martin
1 Sister- Lois Holland Clark of Franklin
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday February 22, 2017 at East Sylva Baptist Church with the Revs. Reed Benson and Charles Dean officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services. Burial will be in Jackson Line Cemetery in Bryson City. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Virgil's name to East Sylva Baptist Church, 61 Faith Ave, Sylva, NC 28779
