Violet Elizabeth Bowers

Violet “Sis” Bowers, age 86, of Sylva went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2019.  She was the wife of the late Rev. David Bowers Sr. and the daughter of the late Arthur and Beulah Bryson. 

Violet was a member of East Sylva Baptist Church and dearly loved the Lord and her church family. She was known as a sweet, caring, precious and very giving Mother, Grandmother and friend. She loved to cook and loved her music.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was also preceded in death by one son; Tony Ray Bowers and four brothers.

She is survived by one daughter; Rachel (Gary) Carpenter, one son; David (Sandra) Bowers Jr., seven grandchildren; Sabrina Brewer, Darrell (Amanda) Bishop, Chris (Amanda) Bowers, Tiffany (Dewayne) James, Amber (Justin) Sharpe, Tyler (Brittney) Bowers and Zachary (Brittany) Bowers and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister; Dorothy Jean (Jack) Bryson along with several special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm at East Sylva Baptist Church with Revs. Charles Dean, Avery Brown and Roger Stewman officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 11, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dewayne James, Justin Sharpe, Tyler Bowers, Zack Bowers, Chris Bowers and Daryl Bishop. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Bryson, Robbie Bryson, Randy Bryson and Mike Hoyle.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to East Sylva Baptist Church, 61 Faith Ave., Sylva, NC 28779.
