Roy Robert Edwards, age 91, of Webster,NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17th at the Solace Center in Asheville surrounded by his family. He was the oldest living deacon of the Lovedale Baptist Church and valued his Christian faith. His passion in life was his family and he devoted every day to making their lives better. He was very appreciative of everyone who assisted him in his later years. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, Hazel Jackson Edwards, his parents Andy and Nora Monteith Edwards, three sisters; Frankie Barnes, Rosetta Edwards, Margaret Potts and one brother; Marvin Edwards. He is survived by sons Robert and his wife Sherrie of Webster, Wayne and his wife Suzy of Maggie Valley, three grandchildren; Lori (Brandon) Farmer of Arden, Andy (Ryan) Edwards of Caney Fork, and Krista (Kevin) Mathis of Webster and five great grandchildren Mr Edwards was a former employee of the Mead Corporation and retired as the manager of Sylva Coal and Lumber Company. He was an avid woodworker, gardener, and loved the mountains of western North Carolina. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Kathy and Zara of the Outpatient Infusion Department of Harris Regional Hospital for their care and kindness. The family also wishes to thank Faith Baptist Church for their visits, prayers and meal ministry. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday October 20 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. Mike Shuford, Eddie Stillwell and Mike Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 pm prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Roy and Hazel Edwards Scholarship Fund in care of Western Carolina University Foundation.
