Cullowhee -- Tim Martin passed away February 15, 2024, at home with family, following a long battle with cancer. He was born November 19, 1952, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to Thomas Martin and Martha (Huff) Martin.
Tim earned a master’s degree in Graphic Arts Education from Montana State University and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts Education from Fairmont State College. He moved to Cullowhee in 1989, where he managed the print shop at Southwestern Community College and subsequently, until retirement, ran his own business in property restoration.
He will be missed by his loving wife of 35 years, Lisa Bloom; two sons, Lane Alexander Bloom Martin (wife, Ashlyn Lewis Martin) of Belgrade, Montana, and Todd Hudson Bloom Martin (partner, Jess Leonard) of Asheville; his brother, Thomas Martin (Stanis) of Rivesville, West Virginia; and eighteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tim loved the nearby mountains of North Carolina as well as those of his native West Virginia, and he was fascinated by the whole of the natural world. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, photography, tinkering, and creating. An artist with a mechanical bent, he had an uncanny ability to repair just about anything.
With whatever he did in work and life, Tim was patient and intentional, acting on his own terms, taking his own time. He was kind, generous, and deeply spiritual: a person who firmly believed in love and acceptance of his fellow humans, and who strove for peace above all.
There will a memorial service and reception at Cullowhee United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 24, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trout Unlimited https://www.tu.org. Or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
