Sullivan Sheppard III

d. August 8, 2018

Sullivan “Josh” Sheppard III, age 69, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in Sylva, NC. He was born on December 31, 1948 in Montgomery, Alabama to Sullivan and Louise Sheppard. He is survived by his cherished wife Susan; daughter Holly Sheppard; daughter Haley Werle; son-in-law Bill Werle; granddaughter Amelia Werle; grandson Cade Werle and his sisters Peggy Oubre, Sally Ray and Martha Wallner. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Billy Sheppard.

Josh had a big personality, but an even bigger heart. He was a free spirit who lived life to the fullest. In his younger days, he loved a good party. He threw some legendary ones with bonfires, live music and more people than his house could handle.

Josh loved his family deeply and took pride in their achievements, no matter how big or small. He always said the best thing he ever did in life was marry Susan and become a father. He loved being Pop-Pop to Amelia and Cade. He enjoyed sharing his popsicles, giving them “pocket change” and especially big hugs that he called “tight sugar”.

One of the biggest accomplishments of Josh’s life was overcoming addiction. He took it one day at a time and was sober for 32 years. He was a sponsor to many and spent countless evenings sharing his story to others battling addiction. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Josh’s name to:  Gateway Community Services in Jacksonville, FL to help others have the success Josh had living a sober life.

Josh’s memory will be honored by his family privately, as he wished.
