Sue Hooper Painter, 98, of Sylva passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Sue was a native of Jackson County and the daughter of the late John Hooper and Maude Irene Ashe Hooper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Walter Burke Painter Jr., and her sister Joyce Houston.
Sue worked at Mead Corporation over 30 years. After retiring from Mead, she worked as payroll clerk at Hammermill Hardwoods of Sylva. She then worked part-time with American Greetings into her mid-80s. She enjoyed traveling, working puzzles, gospel music, making jewelry, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved her family and her church.
Sue is survived by daughters Sheila (David) Frizzell of Sylva and Sherian (Bill) Lucchetta of Wilmington, Delaware; granddaughters Brandi (Jonathan) Young of Marietta, Georgia and Kristi (Patrick) Russell of Kenniwick, Washington; four great-grandchildren, Chandler Hensley of Sylva, Mason, Kloie and Anthony Russell all Kenniwick, Washington.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Lovedale Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to United Christian Ministries of Jackson County or the youth program of Lovedale Baptist Church.
