Shirley R. Pressley

Shirley Rae Seago Pressley left this earth to be with God and many loved ones on December 27, 2023.

Born in Jackson County in 1935, Shirley was the youngest daughter of the late Royal Seago and Rhoda Bryson Seago.  She survived both parents as well as all of her five brothers and four sisters.  She was married for 57 years to the late James Kenneth (Joe) Pressley.  Also preceding her in death were her two oldest children, Mickey Pressley and Rhonda Pressley Galloway.  Shirley’s three youngest children survive.  Chuck Pressley of Easley SC, Jim Pressley, and Beth Pressley-Hussaini, both of Cullowhee, along with four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Shirley was primarily a homemaker most of her life but did work part-time jobs in retail, then worked several years as a substitute teacher, a custodian, then a reading aide for Jackson County Schools.  She was a Christian woman, active in church, and a founding member of Cullowhee Valley Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on  Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Appalachian Funeral Services where a service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in their chapel with her son, Reverend Jim Pressley officiating.  There will be no graveside service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Meals on Wheels by Jackson County Department on Aging, 100 County Services Park Sylva, NC 28779.
