Shirley A. Crisp, born December 29, 1939, passed away December 30, 2020 after an extended stay at Skyland Care Center. She was a longtime member of Longbranch Baptist Church, active in Prison Ministry, and volunteered for Crisis Hotline and R.E.A.C.H. Shirley was known and loved by the community through her work at the Parkway Restaurant for many years, and was later employed by Harris Regional Hospital as a Telemetry Tech. She loved her time at family reunions and picnics by the river. A native of Jackson County, Shirley was the daughter of the late Bert Hensley, Sr. and Helen Carnes Hensley. She was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma, and three brothers, Bert, Jr., Larry and Michael and wife, Joyce Hensley. She is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Harold Crisp, of Sylva; daughter, Karen and husband Wesley Stephens, of Dillsboro; sister, Jolene and husband Larry Fraley, of Webster; brother, Cance and wife Maggie Hensley, of Cullowhee; sister, Madge and late husband Ronnie Douthit, of Bryson City, and sister, Sam and husband Robert McFee, of Beaufort, SC; one uncle, Sonny and wife Ula Carnes of Dillsboro; sister-in-law, Glenda Buchanan Hensley, of Montesano, WA; several nieces and nephews; many close cousins and special friend, Billy McQueen. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 2, 2021, 2:00 PM at Appalachian Funeral Services chapel with Reverends Eddie Stillwell, Avery Brown, and Wesley Stephens officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Shirley Crisp to Prison Ministry of Barberville Baptist Church, 1441 Russ Avenue Waynesville, NC 28786.
