Shirley Ann Battles Brooks, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence in Whittier, North Carolina, on the morning of Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the age of 75 with her loving family by her side. Born on August 5, 1949, in Franklin, North Carolina, Shirley's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience.

Shirley devoted over 30 years of her professional life as a Veterinary Assistant at Jackson County Veterinarian Clinic, where she cared for countless animals with expertise and care. Before this fulfilling career, she worked at Belk’s, where she made many cherished connections. Her work was more than just a job; it was a reflection of her nurturing spirit and profound love for all living beings.

Beyond her professional life, Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures. She had a passion for horseback riding, which brought her closer to nature and allowed her to experience the freedom of the open trails. Camping trips were another source of happiness, offering her an opportunity to relish the beauty of the outdoors. She also delighted in watching Westerns, immersing herself in tales of adventure and bravery. Above all, Shirley treasured the time spent with her family, creating memories that will be forever held dear by those who loved her.

Shirley's life was one of inspiration and strength, marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Hastings Cloer, and her husbands, Charles B. Ensley (June 18, 1970) and Wayne T. Brooks (July 30, 2024), whose memories she cherished deeply.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her two sons, James Ensley (Rena) and Brian Hall; her daughter, Kim Hall; eight grandchildren, Heather Flesch (Jared), BJ Hall, Kayla Holland (Austin), Dalton Hall, Derek Hall, Haylee Smith, Kaylee Smith, and Emily Hall; as well as five great-grandchildren, Kylar Flesch, Bentley Hall, Ava Flesch, Hadley Holland, and Parker Holland. Shirley is also survived by her siblings Doug Battles (Pam), Linda Battles Broom, Ronnie Cloer, Connie Cloer Tyler, Deborah Cloer, and Gail Cloer Cagle, along with several nieces and nephews. Her family extends to numerous friends she made throughout her journey, each touched by her kindness and warmth.
