Sarah Ann Horstman

Sarah (Sally) Field Horstman passed away on September 30, 2014. She battled cancer for 26 years. She was born August 6, 1938 in Peekskill, NY and graduated from Nursing School in White Plains, NY in 1959. She moved to Black Mountain in 1960 and worked at Mission Hospital for 3 years. She married Jon Danenhower in the early 60's and moved to Cullowhee in 1967 and worked at CJ Harris Hospital (MedWest) as an Operating Room nurse for many years. After several moves around the county and a divorce, she married Arden Horstman in 1978. She renewed her faith in Christ and served Jesus the rest of her life. She served in the Presbyterian Church in Cullowhee through the Praise Band, Mission Trips, and Parrish Nursing. In her later years, she served at Webster Baptist Church through visitation, music and helping her daughter in the office. She was a part of the community orchestra for 10 years and also loved playing bridge and tennis. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Clifford Field and her husband Arden Horstman. She is survived by her brother George and Ginny Field, her sister Sande Powell, her sister Barbara Hinkle, her son Jon and Marcia Horstman, her daughter Sheila and Max Bennett, her grandson Matthew and Jamie MacFarlane, her granddaughter, Julie and Paul Slagle, her granddaughter Elizabeth Bennett her grandsons William, James, and Christopher Horstman and her 3 great grandchildren. She was a mother and grandmother to many others in her community. She brought the love of Jesus to all who crossed her path and we call it an honor to call her mother. We will have a memorial for Sally at Webster Baptist Church on October 11 at 2 pm in the Christian Life Center. Sally's request was to come for a celebration of her life in joyful colors.
