Sandra Smith

Sandra Smith, age 59, of Sylva died Friday, October 19, 2012. Ms. Smith was born December 19, 1952 in Jackson County. She is the daughter of the late William Henry Smith and the late Bertha Jane Fox Smith Battle. She was retired from the Jackson County Department of Social Services where she worked as a caseworker. She attended Galbreath Baptist Church and was a member of Speedwell Baptist Church. She loved scrapbooking, spending time with her grandchildren, cooking and housekeeping. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Betty Lee Smith, and brothers, Steven, Bill, and Charlie Smith. She is survived by one daughter: Jennifer Fowler and one son: Jeff Fowler and Cara Reece, both of Sylva; a brother, Hoyt Smith; and three sisters, Dorothy Powers, Sue Hooper, and Joyce Johnston; four grandchildren, Natalie Fisher, Coleman, Jackson and Jonathan Jenkins, and Austin Jackson. Sandra is also survived by ex-husbands, Bill Fowler and Roger Battle. Her closest and dearest friend, Pat Sluder also survives. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 22 at 2:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva, with Reverend Gary Moore officiating, followed by burial in the Hooper - Speedwell Cemetery in Cullowhee. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 1712 Asheville Hwy, Hendersonville, NC 28791. . .
