Ruth Ellanora Lyons

Ruth Ellanora Lyons, age 85, of Sylva died Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Skyland Care Center. Ms. Lyons was born December 14, 1932 in Sylva, North Carolina to the late Fred and Nora (Gibson) Sutton. She was married to Dewey Lyons who passed away in 2006. They were married for 58 years.

She retired from Dayco after 30 years of employment and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She loved and cherished her many friends. She loved to garden and can food. Ms. Lyons had a great sense of humor.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ms. Lyons was preceded in death by a son, Steve. Also preceding her in death were her siblings; Rachel Cogdill, Doris Green, Ruby Bumgarner, J.R. Sutton and Lewis Sutton.

Ms. Lyons is survived by three children; Waybern James Lyons (Colleen), Michael Lyons, and Joann Lyons. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Ronnie Trull, Stacy Cowan and Tamrick Mull (Joey); six great-grandchildren; Mitchell Griffin, Austin Cowan, Blaine Mull, Addie Mull, Alexia Trull and Hunter Trull; one great-great grandchild, Riley Cowan; and one sister, Birdie Buchanan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive in Sylva, North Carolina with Rev. Mike Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
