Roy Candler McClure

Roy Candler McClure, age 92, of Sylva, passed away Tuesday, May 29th, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of the late Irene Bryson McClure and the son of the late Raymond and Nettie McClure. 

Roy was a member of First Baptist Church of Sylva. He was an avid hiker with The Golden Age Hikers and enjoyed playing bridge at the Senior Center. He also enjoyed traveling and his daily coffee with his McDonald’s friends. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 and was stationed aboard the Landing Craft Tank 836 in Hawaii.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by one daughter; Jessica Creech, four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by two sons; Roy B. (Sandy) McClure and Sam (Marilyn) Buchanan. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two step grandchildren. One brother; Gene McClure and one sister; Betty Nowlin also survive.

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held on a later date to be determined by his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Meals on Wheel Program, Jackson County Senior Center, Attn: Karen Davis, 100 County Services Park, Sylva, NC 28779; or to The Community Table, 23 Central St., Sylva, NC 28779.
