It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rosetta Carter Gates, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Rosetta departed this world on December 11th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication.
Rosetta was a cherished member of her entire community, known for her deep love of nature and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She found joy in the simple beauty of the world around her, often spending her days in the garden, quilting or taking long drives with friends through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Her appreciation for the natural world was a testament to her gentle and nurturing spirit.
Rosetta retired from Southwestern Community College, where she dedicated many years of her life. Rosetta is survived by her brother Alvin and her sisters Darlene, Debbie, and Irene, her devoted daughter Christy, a loving son-in-law Quincy, and her cherished granddaughter Cheyenne.
Rosetta's family was the center of her universe, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and success. Rosetta's warmth, wisdom, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her presence.
A celebration of life will be held for Christy and Rosetta Gates on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva starting at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends from 12:30- 2:00 prior to the service.
