Robert “Bob” Ward, 91, of Sylva, passed away Friday December 6, 2013. Mr. Ward was a native of Hartford, Alabama. A WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, he moved to Sylva, N.C. from Miami, Florida in the early 1970’s. His great love for people and storytelling encouraged him to build “Wards Cabins”. Every evening the guests would gather on his porch to enjoy his jokes and stories. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; William and Ozzie Ward, four brothers, three sisters, and his daughter Susan Ward Throgmorton. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marjorie Quinn Ward 2 Daughters- Carol Ward Ponz and her husband Stan Mary Ward Story and her husband Ron Brother- Lomax Ward Sister- Pearl Smith 3 Grandsons- Alan E. Wray, Eric (J.T.) Throgmorton and wife Brynn, and Joey Ponz 2 Granddaughters- Kim Mullan and her husband Keith, and Cindy Wray 7 Great Grandchildren- Matthew, Kennedy, Angelica, Eli, Mayson, Addison and Jaslynn The family will receive friends on Saturday December 28 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM with a Memorial Service immediately following in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Med West-Harris Hospice, 132 Sylva Plaza, Sylva, NC 28779. The family appreciates the care given by Hospice and Harris Hospital Doctors, Nurses, and Staff during Bob’s illness and hospital stay.
