Richard Raymond Hermes

Richard Raymond Hermes, age 77, of Candler died Friday, September 18, 2015 at Solace Care Center of Asheville, NC. Mr. Hermes was born March 7, 1938 in Appleton, WI. He is the son of the late William A. and the late Agnes L. (Van Striphout) Hermes. In addition to his parents Mr. Hermes was also preceded in death by a nephew, Gary Hermes. Mr. Hermes is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Karen; two sons, Alan and his wife Kristi of Sylva; and David and his wife Kim, of Bryson City; four grandchildren, Victoria (Tori), Jessica (Jessie), Chase, and Kyndall; one brother, Robert Hermes of Adele, Wisconsin; and one sister, Germaine Hermes of Iron Mountain, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Hermes served in the United States Army and was employed as a mechanic. He was a long distance truck driver and enjoyed roller skating, camping, and traveling. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hermes family to help with final expenses. . .
