Drew Gilliland

Richard Andrew "Drew" Gilliland 27 of Cullowhee, gained his beautiful wings when he was called home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, May 14th, 2022. The heartbreaking news was unexpected and came as a surprise to all who knew and loved him.

Drew was born on November 30, 1994, in Anderson, SC to his parents Cale Elkins and Kim Gilliland. He was the baby brother to his sister, Hailey Elkins and brother, Codey Elkins. He was also the big brother to Jacob Elkins. He cherished being a wonderful father to his son, Alijah Gilliland. He was his greatest attribute.

There were many things Drew did well. He was on the baseball team at Belton Honea Path High School until moving to North Carolina, where he continued playing baseball at Smokey Mountain High School. He could play the dulcimer and loved to be in nature either fishing, hunting, or just admiring the beautiful views of the sunrise or sunset. Drew loved any and everything living. As a young boy, he enjoyed helping his mother, Kim, at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

Every person that had the privilege to meet Drew was impacted by him in a positive way. He left his mark on every person who crossed his path. His big bright smile and blushed rosy cheeks would light up any room he entered. If anyone was good at making people laugh, it was Drew. His own laughter was contagious. There wasn't one selfish bone in his body. He always put everyone before himself without hesitation.

Drew's life was cut short, unfortunately. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. But if it was up to him, he would want everyone to smile and keep the memories made dear to their hearts. For this is not goodbye. . .just see ya later!

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday May 22, 2022 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. Caleb Kelly and Doc Luker officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm till 3:00 prior to the Service at the Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Sols Creek Cemetery in Tuckasegee, NC.
