Peggy Dills Garwood

Peggy Dills Garwood, 84, of Sylva, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022, after a 2 year battle with cancer. She was born in Jackson County on March 9, 1938, to the late Ernest Dills and Mattie Jacobs Dills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Garwood, and brother, Jerry Dills.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Jill Tarr (Eric Ridenour); brother, Charlie Dills (late Deanna Dills), and sister-in-law, Winnie Dills; granddaughter, Kelly Wright (Cord); great-grandsons and the loves of her life, Cooper and Cannon Wright; two bonus grandchildren, Maris and Jack Ridenour; six special nieces; and numerous great nieces and nephews; the most wonderful caregivers, Donna Wilson, Cindy Robertson, Connie Allison, Betty Hall, and Ruby Dills.

We lost the most selfless, strongest woman we have ever known.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 prior to the service. The family will assemble for a private graveside burial following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Parris Cemetery Fund or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
