Patsy Jean Fisher Mathis, 73, of Sylva passed away at her home on March 10th, 2017. She and her husband Dennie Mathis were married for 55 years. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Eva Fisher.
She was retired as an administrator in Housing with Western Carolina University. She was a 1988 graduate of WCU with a BS in Business. She was a member of Scotts Creek Baptist Church where she was an active member of the choir. She was also a member of the Hospitality Committee and loved helping the church and cooking for the elderly. She was an avid typist and loved to cook, bake, and take meals to shut ins. She also loved old time flat foot clog dancing.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother; Earl Fisher and her son-in-law; Lt. Ellith K McFalls.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters; Carla Robinson and Melissa Mathis and one son; Chas (Chimene) Mathis, along with three grandchildren; Denise Robinson, Chastity Williams, and Colton Mathis, and one great grandchild; Isaiah Robinson. Also surviving are three brothers; Jack Fisher of Waynesville, Kenneth Fisher of Hampton, VA, and Bobby Fisher of Asheville, and three sisters; Louise Henry of Sylva, Betty Jo Katschman of Yorktown, VA, and Susie Bartley of Hampton, VA along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Scotts Creek Baptist Church of Sylva at 2:00 pm with Dr. J D Grant officiating. The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Love Cemetery in the Willets Community. Serving as pallbearers will be; George Rogers, Scott Buchanan, Jim Cochran, Tim Hawkins, Mark Jones, and Noel Cagle. Honorary pallbearers will be; Eric Lambert, Homer Royals, Richard Young, Terry Crisp, Jack Arnold, and Matthew Rogers.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to: Lt. Ellith K McFalls Scholarship at Southwestern Community College, 447 College Dr., Sylva, NC 28779.
