Nell Green Sanford

Nell Green Sanford, 90 of Sylva, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023. Nell was born on October 16, 1932, in Jackson County to the late Ode and Minnie Allman Green. Nell work as an Assistant Clerk of Court at Jackson County for almost 20 years where she retired. Her previous employment included working at the North Carolina General Assembly in Raleigh, Nantahala Power & Light, Mead, and Jackson County Board of Education.  She enjoyed arts and crafts, shopping, and listening to gospel music. Nell was a very generous person and loved helping everyone; including saving animals. She was a member of East Sylva Baptist Church.

Nell is survived by her daughters, Terrie Sanford, Joan Stillwell (Richard), Pam Hooper (Jeff); grandchildren, Joseph Stillwell (Missy), Jake Stillwell (Melissa), Samantha Junaluska (Mark); great-grandchildren, Reaves Stillwell, Emmalee Stillwell, Cole Stillwell, Layla Stillwell, Charli Junaluska, Zayden Junaluska, and Parker Stillwell. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Cozette and Clayton Green; sister-in-law’s, Brenda and Peggy.

In addition to her parents, Nell is preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, Sam William Sanford; brother, William Jack Green (Naomi).

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. Rev. Lloyd Fish and Rev. Earl Holden will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to East Sylva Baptist Church.
