Our Lord and Savior walked his daughter, Nancy Foster Mashburn Browning into his arms on April 13th, 2018 at the age of 83. Nancy was born December 13th of 1934, to then become a life-long resident of Sylva and a glorious impact within the community. Former Fire Chief and Father, Edward Oscar Mashburn and mother Alice Reece Mashburn were loving role models to Nancy, including her sisters and brothers, Helen, Joeanne, Lavinia, Eloise, Bob and Theodore.
Many knew Nancy as the telephone operator at Contell, the owner of The Browning Shoe Shop, the lifelong friend, the loving grandmother, a fighter. Nancy was full of strength, dignity and willpower. A woman of great heart which she shared with the community and all among her.
Nancy enjoyed gardening, diving into a new book, or working puzzles. Nancy had a passion for classic country cooking and would share with anyone whom walked through her door. Always having an open-door policy, Nancy was selfless to all who knew her. Nancy forever had an appreciation for flowers, and spent retirement flourishing her property into a beautiful landscape with her granddaughter. Raising three grandchildren was once of her most cherished and favored accomplishments.
Nancy is proceeded by daughters Crystal Schutters and Alisha Browning. Her grandchildren, Craig Sutton, Epiphany Priebe, and Radburn Schutters will continue her legacy forever forward.
Nancy's teachings were honest, moral, loving, and a true representation of a generation which will be admired.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, April 16th at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva, NC with Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating.
