Morgan Welch Deitz

Morgan Welch Deitz, born in Sylva, NC, was the son of the late Samuel Welch Deitz and Annie Lee Morgan Deitz. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the age of 80.

He is survived by his great nieces and nephew: Tonya Wilson Snider of Sylva, NC (husband Dusty and sons Tristen, Sawyer and Eli), Brandon Wilson of Cashiers, NC (wife Kay and daughter Parker), and great niece and caretaker Tiffany Wilson Henry of Sylva, NC (husband Jason, son Jacob and daughter Jaylen). Along with several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, he is also survived by his half-brothers Mike Deitz and Sammy Deitz of Sylva, NC.

Morgan was one of the youngest siblings in a large family with ten children. He willingly served in the United States Marine Corp, with a great love for his country. After serving in the Vietnam War, he was employed at Western Carolina University where he retired in 2004 after 24 years of
service. With the exception of his military service, he lived most of his life in Sylva, NC.  He was a quiet, kind and gentle man and one of the things people remember most about him was his smile.

He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Annie Deitz; sisters Emma Corley, Peggy Bradley and Edith Wilson Dykes; and brothers - Paul, Freeman, Walker and Bill Deitz.

A private graveside service was held with full military rites in Sylva, NC on February 3, 2024.  Pallbearers were Brandon Wilson, Jason Henry, Jacob Henry, Dusty Snider, Sawyer Snider and Eli Snider.  The family would like to thank Morningstar Assisted Living and their incredible staff for their love and compassion as they cared for Morgan and all their other residents.  They always treated him as if he were family and truly made him feel like he was at home for the 16 years he was in their care.

Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva is in charge of the arrangements.
