Minnie Lee Haney

Our mother, Minnie Lee Mathis Haney passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024. She was 77 years young.  Minnie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gary Dexter Haney Sr. She is also survived by her 6 children: Melissa Henry (husband, Michael); Margaret Ramey (husband, Mark), Lucinda Haney; Gary Haney Jr (wife, Susan); Adam Conner and Jacobe Conner (wife, Chelsea). Minnie was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 21 Great grandchildren.

Minnie was born in Sylva, NC on February 14, 1947, the daughter of Peter Alexander and Margaret Virginia Mathis. One of three children. She was preceded in death by her brothers Cecil Timber Mathis and Kenneth David Mathis. Minnie is survived by her stepsister Rose Mary Conner.

Minnie was a hard-working woman, as she worked at a sawmill where she was a lumber grader for years. She was also an avid reader. Minnie adapted with the times to read on a tablet but loved an actual book to hold and read. Minnie loved to sew with her mother making quilts for all the children and grandchildren. Memories of the two of them in the “Quilting Shed” will live on. There were always grandchildren running around playing while they worked on the next quilt.

Minnie, we will miss you deeply. You will always be in our hearts. We will see you in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life memorial service is scheduled for 1 PM (Friends from 1 p.m – 2 p.m.), June 1, 2024.
