Mildred Josephine Brooks

Mildred Sutton Brooks, 95, of Barkers Creek, passed away Sunday July 5, 2015 at Skyland Care Center after a long period of declining health. She was a homemaker and retired teacher's aide. She was the last surviving charter member of Rockdale Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Lonza and Melissa Sutton and was also preceded in death by her husband Virgil, brothers Allen of Darrington, WA., Marshall of Dillsboro, T.B. of Arlington, WA. and Don of Hendersonville. She is survived by two sons- Randy of East Asia and Greg of Whittier; one brother Robert of Asheville, NC. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday July 7 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. Ray Fox and Lester Sutton officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Barkers Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Barkers Creek Cemetery Fund, 277 Beech Tree Rd, Whittier, NC 28789 .
