Melvin Carl Wykle

Melvin Carl Wykle, age 89, of Whittier died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at his home. A lifetime resident of Jackson County, Melvin was born May 19, 1926. He is the son of the late Pearson L. and the late Martha (Hensley) Wykle. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Wilma King Wykle; brothers, Raymond, Clarence and Robert; sisters, Romola and Viola, and a son, John Wykle. He was a logger and loved to hunt, and make a garden. He was a very loving father, brother, and grandfather. He is survived by sons, Carl, Michael and Eddie Wykle of Whittier, and James Wykle of Bryson City; a daughter, Elizabeth Winder of Leichester; a sister, Eloise Baldwin; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Appalachian Funeral Service of Sylva on Wednesday, July 1, at 2:00 pm with the Revs. James Gunter and Michael Gunter officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Burial will follow the funeral in Barker's Creek Cemetery in Whittier. . .
