Malcolm "Max" Hooper Sr., 77, of Sylva, NC, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 after an extended illness. Born December 28, 1942, he was the son of the late Delos and Edna Greene Hooper.
Max was captain of both the football and basketball teams in High School and then attended Baylor University for a short time before joining the Army in 1962 where he was with the 82nd Airborne. He was a expert marksman having shot a silver dollar from 300 yards away for General Westmoreland. He later graduated from Western Carolina University in Industrial Technology. He went on to teach at North Buncombe High School and then at Sylva Webster High School then finally ended up doing cross country hauls for Bryson Trucking. He loved to fish, watch old westerns and archery. His most favorite thing to do was spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers; Delos Dexter Hooper III, William Wilson Hooper and Gary "Pete" Green Hooper
He is survived by two sons; Eric (Holly) Hooper and Macky (Collette) Hooper
Grandchildren- Cole, Ethan, Eliott (Jolena), Elizabeth
2 Great grandsons- Wiley and Corbin
and one sister; Anne Hooper Hudson also survives.
Due to Covid concerns the family has chosen to have a private family service.
Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva, NC is serving the family.
