Mary Alice Rock passed away on Christmas day, December 25th of 2023, at the age of 56 in her home in the town of Sylva, North Carolina. Her passing was the end of a long and enduring battle with cancer over at least six months, a form of cancer later discovered to be both very rare and very aggressive.
Mary was born in Georgia on August 18, 1967, to unknown parents. She was adopted and raised in Jackson County, North Carolina.
As a Veteran of the United States Army, she served as a Military Police Officer in the 1980s. Following her service in the military, Mary became a Bail Bondsman in Western North Carolina and its surrounding localities for over 20 years. She conducted business with integrity and dedication as the sole provider of her family.
Among her hobbies, Mary regularly traveled to flea markets, yard sales, and thrift stores to collect various items and antiques such as stamps, coins, signs, clothes, and jewelry. As much time as she spent doing so, her love for collecting was surpassed only by her love for her family.
Over the years and through Mary’s careers and hobbies she made many friends. If one were to ask any of those who knew Mary, it would reveal two main qualities about her: Mary was, above all, a strong woman and a caring mother.
Her three belovèd children survive her: Chad Jeremy Frady of Montana, age 38, Daniel Joseph Rock II of the home, age 21, and MaryLou Jennie Rock of the home, age 19. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends whom she held much love for in her heart. She is dearly missed by many in our community.
