Mary Sue Prior

Mary Sue Prior, age 81 of Sylva, went to be with the Good Lord Jesus on Saturday, February 12, 2022.  A native of Jackson County, she was a beautiful daughter born on October 13, 1940, to the late Mack B. and Willie Biddix Gosnell.

She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, home canning, and cooking.  She was one heck of a cook!  She loved her animals, Rocky, Betty Lou, Rascal Cat, and of course, Chucky.  Mary had a great sense of humor.  She was a big Three Stooges fan.  She said, “When I get to Heaven, I’m gonna find ol’, (” Hey! Hey! Hey!”), …”and give him an eye poke, Moe!”  Nyuck! Nyuck!  At least she always had her daily Bible verses with her praising Jesus. 

She was a beautiful wife, mother, and friend.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Lisa Mitchell, of Sylva, Donna Barnes, of FL,  sons, Lonnie Barnes Jr, of Sylva, Michael Prior, of FL; sisters, Yanna Gosnell and Jean Ashe, of Tuckasegee, Elaine White, of FL; brothers, Michael Gosnell, of Sylva, James Dequana Gosnell of LA; grandsons, Tyler Withington and Nicholas Barnes, of FL; nephews, Lee Ashe, Jeremiah Nicholson, Dustin Nicholson, of Tuckasegee, William ‘Billy’ White, of CT; nieces, Melissa White and Dawn White, of CT; and many more grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Muriel Gosnell Ashe, Effie Gosnell; brothers, Charles, Joseph ‘Joe’, Danny, and Robert ‘Buck’ Gosnell.

No services are planned at this time.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva NC.
