Mary Smith Norris

Mary Smith Norris, 79, of Cashiers, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at her residence.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and a daughter of the late, Cecil and Edna Baumgarner Smith.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Johnny Norris, who died in 2023; one sister, Lydia Bryson; and one brother, Bill Smith.  Mary loved coloring, watching movies, and was an avid reader.

Mary had an unwavering faith in Christ and a fierce love for her family. She was an avid reader and gamer until her health forced her to set those passions aside. Mary was also an unabashed tomboy with a vivid imagination that fueled her deep love for fantasy and science fiction. In latter years, she found great joy in coloring, watching movies and listening to music.

She is survived by a daughter, Melodye Norris; two sons, William Charlie Norris (Kristi) and Matthew Thomas Norris; one grandson, Jonathan Evan Norris; a sister, Malina Fowler (Phil); a brother, Robert Smith (Louetta); one brother-in-law, J.C. Norris (Sheraldean); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Cashiers Baptist Church with the Reverend Jason Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 prior to the service.
