Mary Lee Parris Mathis, 79, of Sylva, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday morning August 25, 2016. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mattie Phillips Parris. Mary loved to sew, embroider and make Quilts. She was a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Mathis and her grandmother Maude Phillips.
She is survived by 4 daughters- Peggy Luker (David) of Tuckasegee
Betty Farmer (Alvin) of Sylva
Rose Chastain (Doug) of Tuckasegee
Janet Bennett of Sylva
2 sons- Wayne Mathis (Tracy)
James Mathis (Brenda) all of Tuckasegee
11 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild also survives
As well as special friends- Lucille Mathis, Betty Jo Stringfield and Joy Hoyle
And a very special friend- Betty Jo Hooper
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 noon Saturday August 27 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. Carl Adams, Michael Queen and Jeff Powell officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 till 12:00 prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mathis Cemetery.
