Mary Louise Wyont Marshall (June 8, 1932-January 15, 2019) Louise Marshall, 86, of Cullowhee, NC, passed away January 15, 2019, at Haywood Regional Medical Center of Clyde NC, following a brief illness. She was born in Gaston County, NC, graduated from Gastonia High School and Appalachian State Teachers College. A lifelong educator and advocate for education, she taught 3rd – 9th grades in the counties of: Lincoln, Gaston, Mecklenburg and Jackson. Mrs. Marshall was a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators and even served as local president for the Jackson County chapter. She was also a longtime member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international education sorority, and served as treasurer for the local branch. Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by: her husband of 63 years, James Ronald Marshall; her parents, David Lee Wyont and Frances Ruth Best Wyont; and a grandson, Christopher David Marshall. Louise is survived by: her brother, David Russell Wyont (Bobbie) of Dallas, NC; a son, David Ronald Marshall (Susan) of Allen, TX; 2 daughters, Marcia Marshall Franklin (Barry) of Waynesville, NC; and Joan Marshall Keever (Bruce) of Rock Hill, SC; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The family will receive visitors Sunday, Feb. 17, 1-2:30pm at Appalachian Funeral Home. A private memorial will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations made to: ARF (Jackson County Humane Society) PO Box 298 Sylva, NC 28779, or Circles of Hope Jackson County, Mountain Projects, 2251 Old Balsam Rd., Waynesville, NC 28786, will be graciously appreciated.
