Martha Ann Jackson White passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
"Marty" was born and raised in Winchester, Massachusetts. She was educated in the local schools and graduated from Colby College, Waterville, Maine. She did graduate work at Boston University School of Music and was a public school music supervisor in several Maine schools. Following marriage to Conrad White, she worked for United Airlines in New York City. The couple moved to New Jersey in 1955 and raised two children in Ridgewood. "Marty" became a licensed Lay Reader for the Episcopal Church in Ridgewood, sang in the choir and was an Altar Guild member. She was also Vice President of the Diocesan Council of the Diocese of Newark. While in Ridgewood, she worked as a para professional in the High School Library.
Upon retirement in 1990, she moved with her husband, Conrad to North Carolina where she has been active in the Church of the Good Shepherd as Chalice Bearer, member of the Altar Guild, Worship Committee and Vestry, and supervised Christian Education. "Marty" was a member of the Western Carolina Community Chorus since coming to North Carolina and sang in many concerts in the East and in Europe. She was also active in the Cashiers Knitting Club.
She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Conrad. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Art and Ellen White from Tuxedo Park, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and David Bryant of Cashiers; a granddaughter and her husband, Jessica and Peter Seifarth of Young Harris, GA; a grandson and his partner, Dawson Bryant and Kate McCosh of Roanoke, VA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, July 22, 2024, at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, NC.
