Marshall "Mitch" Bradley, age 72, of Sylva passed away peacefully Monday morning, January 29, 2018 at Mountain View Manor in Bryson City, NC. Marshall was born April 5, 1945 in Sylva. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen "Shady" and Eva (Sutton) Bradley.
Mitch graduated in 1965 from Sylva-Webster High School and in 1966 from Jackson County Industrial Education Center (now SCC) with a diploma in Carpentry. He then served a 2 year tour in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a carpenter by trade and an avid outdoorsman, who, before his health began to decline, loved hunting and fishing. In addition to his love for the outdoors was his love for his family, church, and community. He was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served for many years as a Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, and Choir Member. He was usually the first one to arrive and last one to leave at every church service. He was dedicated to his community as well serving as a previous scoutmaster for the Savannah Community's Boy Scout Troop and on the Savannah Community Development Center's Board of Trustees.
Always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need or quietly preforming numerous acts of kindness, Mitch will be best remembered for his gentle, quiet, unselfish and easy-going nature, and generous spirit. He will be missed by those surviving him: a brother, Eddie Allen (Wanda) Bradley; niece, Martha (Bradley) Robinson and nephew Chris (Rosie) Bradley; two great-nieces, Megan Robinson and Madison Bradley, and a great nephew Asa Coleman Bradley.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva. Visitation will be from 1pm-3pm with service to follow at 3. The Revs. Dennis Burrell, Roger Stewman, and Larry Nations will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.
