Marilyn Welch Sherrill Cloer, 76, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC with her children by her side.
A native of Sylva, NC and of the Dillardtown community, she was born August 20, 1941 to the late Virgil and Pearl Welch of Bryson City, NC. Also, preceding her in death were her two husbands, Henry Sherrill of 21 years and Leroy Cloer of 22 years, her two sisters, Norma Jean Maney and Thelma Arvey. She is survived by her sister, Kathy Sequoyah of Cherokee, NC and her brother, Virgil (Joyce) Welch of Gastonia, NC and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her two children, Jim (Kim) Sherrill of Apex, NC, and Heather (Nick) Baranski of Apex, NC, her two grandchildren, David Sherrill, and Ashley Baranski. Two great-grandchildren also survive. Marilyn was a retired Personal Director with C.J. Harris Community Hospital. She loved genealogy and was a founding member of the Swain County Genealogical and Historical Society. She also loved crafting, NC State Athletics, NASCAR, and her dogs.
The funeral service will be held on Friday December 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Appalachian Funeral Home with the Rev. Shane Danner and the Rev. Matt Shuler officiating. Burial will follow in Lauada Cemetery, Bryson City, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
