Marie Beasley Parker, 88, formerly of Sylva, NC, died Monday January 9, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Kentucky.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, at Appalachian Funeral Home in Sylva. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm on Saturday January 14. The Revs. Mike Farmer and Charles Dean will officiate. Paul bearers will be her nephews. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
A native of Sylva, Marie was born September 22, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Harve and Lena Shepard Beasley. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Parker to whom she was married for 47 years. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by all of her sisters and her brother: Alice Fox, Mattie Deitz, Ola Deitz, Winnie Dillard, Etta Frizzell, Evelyn Wellman and Carol Beasley.
Surviving is one son, Dale (Jill) Parker; two grandchildren, Grayson (Alecia) and Allie; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Logan; all of Kentucky.
Marie loved the Lord and was a life-long member of East Sylva Baptist Church. She spent many years as a volunteer, singing at the local rest homes in Sylva. For 20 years, Marie provided a childcare out of her home on Chipper Curve Road in Sylva. She loved to be outside working in her yard or garden. She and her husband Ray filled their small yard with beautiful flowers. Marie also loved to cook and was known for making three home cooked meals each day compete with mouthwatering biscuits each time! Besides biscuits, her specialty was coconut cake.
