Marian Jane Norton

"A lovely cup of tea" Marian Jane Norton was born in Norwich, England on April 9, 1935. At the age of 83, she entered heaven's gate on July 1, 2018. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. Marian was a loving mother, homemaker, animal lover, humanitarian and survivor of World War II. As a resident of Sylva for 40 years with her husband, Ed Norton, their kitchen was often filled with rescued or lost dogs. She was passionate in helping others and would often volunteer to drive military veterans to and from their appointments. She donated her time and money to endless charities. With her British accent and wit, people immediately fell in love with her. Traveling around the world with her husband, a career Air Force Veteran, she never lost her connection to her home and family in Great Britain. In her spare time she would enjoy working in the garden and feeding the birds. After working hard all day and making sure everyone was taken care of she would sit down, relax and enjoy a lovely cup of tea. Marian is survived by her husband, Ed Norton, daughters, Sally and Sharon, and son, Eddie. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five sisters. She is preceded in death by daughters, Susan and Sona; sisters, Pauline and Elaine. From the Norton family a special thank you goes out to the nurses at the Sylva Harris Hospice and the staff at Morningstar Assisted Living. Their dedication and compassion helped Marian remain comfortable during this time of transition. Thanks to Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva.
