Marcia Moore

Marcia Bird Moore, age 70, of Cullowhee, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. She was born on June 18, 1954, in Jackson County to the late Dr. Charles Wells Bird and Ellen Burnette Bird.

She is survived by her mother, Ellen; her siblings, Laura (John Schaeffer) Bird and Peggy (Jack) Stern; her three children, Maggie (Justin) Anders, Rachel (Nando) Atencio, and Charlie (Haylee) Swing; and six grandchildren: Miles Anders, Liam Anders, Ellen Anders, Lucas Atencio, Whit Swing, and Tucker Swing.

Marcia graduated from Camp Lab High School and Western Carolina University, where she earned her B.S. degree in Speech Pathology. She taught in Moore, Henderson, Guilford,and Rockingham counties before retiring and returning to Cullowhee. In retirement, she worked with the Senior Center and provided in-home care to individuals in Jackson County. She cherished these special connections, which brought great joy to her life.

Marcia loved her family, friends, students, and colleagues. In her later years, she found happiness in gardening, bird watching, crossword puzzles, and caring for her beloved cat, Mr. Sally.
