Lucille Moore Roberson, 94, a lifelong resident of Jackson County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6th, 2022, at Harris Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Hattie Moore and siblings, Britton, Alvin, and Bertie Moore.
She was born and raised in Sylva, attended Western Carolina Teachers College and was a member of the Sylva First United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 17 years. She was the church treasurer for 30 years. While working at Belk Department Store in Sylva in the 1950’s, a handsome young customer from Leicester, Hoyte Roberson, Sr walked in, swept her off her feet, and they were married on November 22, 1953. They were the co-owners of Roberson Supply and were married 44 years before his passing.
Lucille will be missed by many and will be remembered for her brilliant mind, strong will, caring spirit and her fierce love for her family and friends. She was proud of being from Sylva and loved the mountain people.
Surviving are her son, Hoyte Roberson Jr and daughter-in-law, Kathy Roberson of Sylva; daughter, Anita Diederen and son-in-law, Mike Diederen of Fredericksburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Paige Roberson Dowling (Patrick), Hunter Roberson (Michelle) and Alex Diederen; and two great-grandchildren, Jack Dowling and Christopher Roberson.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. at Appalachian Funeral Services on Tuesday, December 13th with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Mary Brown will officiate.
