Loy Vaughn Deitz

Loy Vaughn Deitz went to his heavenly home Tuesday April 8, 2025. Loy, the youngest of nine children, was born to Alvin Narlin and Danah Hall Deitz. He was born on March 1, 1942 in the East Fork Community of Jackson County. 

Loy is survived by the love of his life Brenda, his son Doug (Ashley), his two grandchildren Austin (Kelly) and Ryan, and sister Frankie Ward. Loy was employed at the Mead Corporation until the plant closed in 1974. In 1976, Loy began work with Jackson County Public Schools. After his retirement in 2004, he began work in cabinetry which he considered more of a hobby than work. The work he did affected a great number of people as Loy was quick to assist with or undertake any project. For that reason, in any place Loy frequented, you’re bound to see a piece of his craftsmanship. 

Loy and Brenda enjoyed traveling across the Great Smoky Mountains to visit their family in Sevierville, Tn. They also enjoyed many activities while in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge area. Loy’s favorite was the Shades of the Past car show as he had an appreciation for fine craftsmanship and the joy of nostalgia. 

Loy and Brenda belong to the East Sylva Baptist Church which can be seen from the yard of their home on Dillardtown Road in Sylva. There, they worshipped the one true Christ in whom Loy laid his hope. 

The family will receive friends at East Sylva Baptist Church on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 1pm with a memorial service to follow at 2pm.
