Louie Richard Gibson

Louie R. Gibson, age 89, of Sylva, formerly of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday December 24, 2014 at Skyland Care Center. He was a native of Swain County, living most of his life in Haywood County before moving to Jackson County. He was a retired taxi driver. He was the son of the late Houston and Julie Melton Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lavada Gibson, daughter Linda Sue, son Oscar Burgess; one grandchild and one great grandchild; two brothers Don and Charlie Gibson, three sisters Helen, Hattie and Sally. He is survived by two sons Jimmy Gibson and wife Sandy of Whitter, Norman Burgess of Waynesville; two daughters Diane Gibson and husband Wayne of Walhalla, SC and Phyllis Davis and husband Jackie of Canton. 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also survive. Funeral Services will be held December 28, 2014 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Cody Rice officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville, NC. Pallbearers will be Brandon Gibson, Brandon Green, Jackie Davis, Norman Burgess, Jeremy Gibson and Dewayne Gibson. Appalachian Funeral Services are in charge of arrangements.
