Lon Farmer, 87, of Sylva died Thursday, April 4, 2024, after a brief hospitalization. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Annie Henry Farmer who preceded him in death. Despite having no children of his own, Lon had a very big heart and claimed all children as his own.
He was born to Delos and Myrtle Massingale Farmer on June 10, 1936, and passed into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Thursday April 4, at 5:42 pm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Mack (Aquilla) and James (Mary), and sisters Ruby Mathis, Bonnie (Joe) Hyatt, and Vergie (Ray) Hyatt. He is survived by his sisters Ella Mae (Wayne) Lanning, Annie Vee ( Joe) Thompson, Etta Bea (Jim) McCall, and Ellen Jo (Roy) Queen.
Lon's good humor and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him. Please join us in saying goodbye. Family and friends will gather at Appalachian Funeral Services to say their farewells on Monday April 8, 2024, at 12:00 noon. The funeral services will be at Appalachian Funeral Services at 1:00 PM. The body will be laid to rest immediately after the services at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Sylva.
Reverend Sammy Manus will officiate the service with a graveside prayer by Roy Queen. The pallbearers will be Alvin Farmer, Paul Farmer, Jonathan Farmer, Raymond Farmer, Jacob Farmer and David Woodard.
