Lester "Les" Snyder, 81 of Sylva, passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife of 16 years on Wednesday, July 1, 2015. In addition to his wife Helen, he leaves behind three daughters and their spouses; Terri Walker and Jeannie (Mike) Stone of Lenoir, NC, Debbie (Darrell) Crowder of Hudson, NC, one son, Mickey Snyder of Canton, three step-daughters: Connie (Mike) Britton of Carrollton, GA, Brenda (Bobby) Henkel of Tuckasegee, and Vicki Heffner of Sylva, two step-sons; William Lee Bennett of Cullowhee and Phillip (Elaine) Bennett of Whittier. Nine grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive.
Born May 24, 1934 in Oneida, New York, he was a Jackson County resident for 23 years. He served 20 years as Staff Sargent in the US Air Force and retired a Korean/Vietnam Veteran. Upon retirement, he was a truck driver for 37 years.
A memorial service was held Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Appalachian Funeral Services, officiated by Rev. Earl Holden, Rev. Eddie Stillwell and the American Legion Post 104.
