Leo Franks, 85, of Pumpkintown Community, passed away Tuesday morning, April 9, 2013. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Leo was the son of the late John Henry and the late Latisha Bishop Franks. He loved working with wood, woodcarving, playing guitar, and was a Deacon at Zion Hill Baptist Church for 39 years. He loved being involved with his church and family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Mae Sorrells Franks; brothers, Pearlie, and Lloyd, and a sister, Geneva Franks Ridley. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Kay Franks of Sylva, a grandson, Justin Norman (Angela) of Franklin; a great-granddaughter, Payton Norman; two brothers, Earlie Franks of Sedro Wooley, WA, Woodrow Franks of Sylva; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, April 12, at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddie Stillwell, Mark Bishop, Keith Ashe, and Steve Webb officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 11 from 6 until 8 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Church Cemetery.
